Your teeth and gums play an important role. They help you bite, chew and speak, all critical functions for normal eating and communicating. When harmful bacteria are given opportunity to attack the mouth, it may result in gum disease or other periodontal concerns that put your teeth and gums at risk and require professional dental treatment. If your gums are swollen, painful, sensitive or receding, our team at Advanced Dental has treatments to help restore health to your smile.
To determine which treatment is best for your smile, Dr. Mike Maroon will first evaluate and discuss your dental concerns with you. He may then recommend one of the following treatments we offer in-house:
Gingivectomy to remove diseased gum tissue. This may be necessary when the gums have pulled away from the teeth due to gum disease, and created dental pockets. These pockets make it difficult to properly remove plaque and calculus.
Scaling and Root Planing to treat early stages of gum disease. Essentially a deep clean, this treatment removes plaque and calculus from the tooth’s surface.
Laser Gum Therapy to remove bacteria and treat gum disease or cold sores. Laser therapy is quick and virtually pain-free, eradicating bacteria in hard-to-reach places other methods cannot.
Osseous Surgery to treat gum disease. This is reserved as a final solution to treat dental pockets that have not responded to other methods. It smoothes and reshapes bone to prevent bacteria from adhering to the tooth’s surface.
Periodontal Maintenance to keep the teeth and gums healthy following gum disease treatment. Once health has been restored to the smile, you will need more regular maintenance to maintain a healthy state.
Gum Grafting to correct gum recession. In cases where there are exposed tooth roots, we can take tissue from another area of your mouth, or use donor tissue, and stitch it over the exposed areas to restore a healthy level of gum tissue.
Pinhole™️ Surgical Technique, another method to cover exposed tooth roots caused by gum recession. This revolutionary, minimally-invasive treatment uses specialized tools to gently move your gum tissue back into position over the teeth and tooth roots. There is no cutting of the tissue or stiches needed.
Laser Frenectomy to remove a small piece of connective tissue called the frenulum on the tongue, cheek or lips. This may be performed in cases where the frenulum is causing gum recession, shifting teeth or difficulties eating or speaking.
Soft Tissue Recontouring to reshape gum tissue. This may be recommended in cases of a gummy smile or where the gum tissue is uneven around the teeth.
Dr. Maroon has over 31 years of experience in dentistry and understands the importance of finding the treatment that will work best for your smile. To bring you the most up-to-date treatment options, he offers alternatives to traditional solutions through the use of an AMD diode dental laser and is certified in the Pinhole™️ Surgical Technique (PST™️). Laser gum treatment is an effective, gentle solution for gum disease, and PST is a reliable method for restoring receding gums to a healthy state without the need for cutting or stitches.
